Executed in the sommerso technique, the … Read more A 1960s red art glass vase designed by Per-Olof Ström for Alsterfors Glasbruk, Sweden. Executed in the sommerso technique, the bold red glass is submerged within a matrix of clear crystal, lending depth and clarity to the colour and form. Shaped in a signature hooped style, the vase features a cylindrical body with a central disc-shaped band that splays outward toward both the base and lip—a form now closely associated with Ström’s output for the influential Swedish glassmaker. The design is both playful and precise—modernist in intent, with a confident use of saturated red colour. The handblown glass is thick-walled and weighty, with a finely polished rim that attests to its craftsmanship. Measuring 19 cm high and 9 cm in diameter, the scale is compact yet impactful, suited to both shelf display and tabletop use. Condition: Good vintage condition with a tiny fleabite to the outer rim and light surface wear along the curved edges—minor and unobtrusive, in keeping with age and use.
