Eceptionally fine and gorgeous late georgian solid silver card case with marks for joseph willmore, birmingham 1836. This card case presents some of the finest and exemplary features which remain in exceptionally good and crisp condition. What is particularly unique and remarkable is the heavily chased, embossed and stippled decoration throughout which presents a distinguished contrasted appearance. Willmore's wares are known to feature such intricate and superior quality and this card case is a lovely example of how such sophisticated craftsmanship can be packed in a compact form factor. Furthermore, the gauge of silver used is wonderful, with a very thick and robust feeling in hand - a cut above the usual expectation of a card case. The two sides present a labyrinth of foliate, floral and bird motifs with exceptional detail and crispness. Please do zoom in on the photos to fully reveal its quality and the delightful condition it has survived in. Two blank cartouches are on either side with a good top hinge with a secure closure. Imagining the time, effort and craftsmanship that would have gone into making one single card case of this calibre is certainly very impressive. One can envision how challenging it would be to simply draw such a design on paper, let alone emboss on silver, without a single fault which would have resulted in the item having to be melted down again. Understandably, its aesthetic beauty and magnificent craftsmanship may divert attention away from its use and practicality, however, we believe such a versatile and sleek style of these cases allows for multiple contemporary uses whether be it for carrying business cards, credit cards or some cash. A practical yet exquisite accessory for the distinguished individual and unlike anything else today - an inevitable conversation starter and a refined manner of expressing your passion for fine antiques. The case is hallmarked with full english marks on the inner bezel where it opens. *all images with other items are for display purposes; this listing is for the title item only.
