A refined swedish art deco pewter vase produced by gab (guldsmedsaktiebolaget), one of sweden’s most respected metal workshops of the early 20th century. Executed in the 1930s, the piece embodies the restrained elegance and functional beauty characteristic of scandinavian modern design at its inception. The vase features a classic baluster form with a softly rounded body rising into a slender, tapering neck and subtle flared rim. Its surface has developed a rich, natural patina over time, enhancing the depth and character of the pewter. Notably, the vase is engraved “maja 1938,” suggesting it was a personal gift or commemorative piece, adding a layer of historical and emotional provenance. The underside bears the stamped mark “gab tenn – svensk vara,” confirming its manufacture by guldsmedsaktiebolaget in stockholm. Gab was renowned for its high-quality metalwork and played a significant role in shaping swedish design during the early modernist period. Pieces from this era are increasingly sought after by collectors for their understated sophistication and historical significance. A timeless decorative object that works equally well in minimalist, modern, or classic interiors.
