A striking and sculptural Swedish mid-century modern glass block aquarium designed by Asta Strömberg and produced by Strömbergshyttan, circa 1950. This exceptional piece captures the artistry and technical mastery of Scandinavian glassmaking at its peak. Formed as a solid, thick glass block with a subtle bluish tint, the composition reveals a beautifully rendered underwater scene encased within—featuring stylized coral formations, aquatic vegetation, and delicately etched fish. The interplay between clear polished surfaces and frosted internal detailing creates depth, movement, and a luminous, almost ethereal quality. The block is designed to be displayed either independently or within its original wooden base, which provides a warm contrast to the cool tones of the glass and enhances its architectural presence. The piece retains its original Strömbergshyttan label affixed to the side, and the top edge is engraved “Strömbergshyttan Sweden” with model number, confirming authenticity. A quintessential example of Scandinavian modern design—minimal, refined, and quietly expressive—this object works equally well as a decorative sculpture or collector’s piece.
