Kōtō aluminium floor lamp by bureau of entropy. Limited edition of 8 pieces + 4 artist's proof. Dimensions: w 38 x d 38 x h 48 cm. Materials: aluminium. All our lamps can be wired according to each country. If sold to the usa it will be wired for the usa for instance. Kōtō (光塔) is a sculptural light object built through stacked planes, weight, and internal alignment. Its silhouette recalls tiered architectural forms, but the object is not a quotation. It is a reduction — a study in vertical rhythm, structural restraint, and layered light. Crafted entirely from brushed aluminium, the lamp is assembled without screws, welds, or adhesives. Its stability emerges through interlocking geometry and the measured relationship of its parts. A concealed internal framework carries the structure while remaining visually subordinate to the outer composition. The five suspended planes diffuse a warm, indirect glow, producing a quiet cadence of light and shadow. What appears minimal from a distance reveals itself, on closer inspection, as highly controlled and precisely resolved. Kōtō is not expressive through excess. Its force lies in proportion, discipline, and the calm authority of construction made visible. The case study. This piece is part of the case study collection, which follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. The work of bureau of entropy follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. Objects are developed through two primary binding principles: precise interlocking parts with minimal tolerances, and gravity used as a structural agent. Form follows function not as a slogan, but as constraint. Less is more not as style, but as discipline. Within this corridor, forms emerge that recall ancient, culturally tested archetypes — objects whose functions have endured for millennia. Their familiarity is not nostalgic, but structural. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by marvin julian freund and matthias figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of bureau of entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form. The work operates between functional object and sculptural presence, positioning itself within the field of collectible design.
