Aperture protocol aluminium floor lamp by bureau of entropy. Limited edition of 8 pieces + 4 artist's proof. Dimensions: w 33 x d 33 x h 45 cm. Materials: aluminium. All our lamps can be wired according to each country. If sold to the usa it will be wired for the usa for instance. Aperture protocol is a lighting sculpture composed of 42 interlocking aluminium components. Inspired by the optical logic of cinematic soft-boxes, it reinterprets that principle through construction rather than fabric: light is channelled, reflected, and disciplined by a deep internal grid. The result is a horizontal beam — soft in atmosphere, precise in direction. As light passes through the internal lattice, polished aluminium surfaces modulate it from within. Shadows lose their sharpness. What remains is a measured line of illumination that reads as spatial before it reads as decorative. Aluminium is used here for more than structure. Its reflectivity becomes part of the optical system, allowing the object itself to determine the behavior of light. With the exception of a protective dust screen, the luminous effect is achieved entirely through form, surface, and alignment. Each element is manufactured to extreme tolerance and assembled through a slot-and-fit method without screws, welds, or adhesives. The structure locks from within. Aperture protocol does not simply emit light. It frames it, directs it, and gives it architectural consequence. The case study. This piece is part of the case study collection, which follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. The work of bureau of entropy follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. Objects are developed through two primary binding principles: precise interlocking parts with minimal tolerances, and gravity used as a structural agent. Form follows function not as a slogan, but as constraint. Less is more not as style, but as discipline. Within this corridor, forms emerge that recall ancient, culturally tested archetypes — objects whose functions have endured for millennia. Their familiarity is not nostalgic, but structural. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by marvin julian freund and matthias figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of bureau of entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form. The work operates between functional object and sculptural presence, positioning itself within the field of collectible design.
