Materials: Burnished wood. This one-of-a-kind table is engineered from naturally corroded and fire-sculpted wood, selected for its distinctive organic textures and structural irregularities. The surface has been meticulously stabilized through multiple layers of hand-applied, high-grade epoxy resin, a process that reinforces the inherent fragility of the burnt wood while preserving its raw, geological character. The base features a pair of precision-crafted mirrored monolithic legs, designed to evoke the optical purity of ice blocks. Their reflective surfaces introduce a sense of weightlessness and visual tension, contrasting the rugged, carbonized top with a contemporary, architectural foundation. The interplay between reinforced organic matter and engineered reflective structures creates a functional sculpture that merges material experimentation, artisanal craftsmanship, and collectible design. Alex Turco is an Italian artist–designer living and working between Italy and the United States. His practice is articulated through two complementary yet distinct bodies of work: collectible design and artworks. Across both, Turco investigates the relationship among nature, material, and form through a minimalist, highly controlled visual language. Born into a family of artists and photographers, Turco was immersed in an environment from an early age where visual culture, craftsmanship, and conceptual thinking were inseparable. This background shaped a practice in which art and design coexist as parallel disciplines, each informing the other while maintaining their own autonomy. His collectible design practice officially debuted at Art Basel Paris in 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of his work.
