Hand-painted majolica (faience) apothecary jar with heraldic decoration.
Origin & Mark:
The jar originates from the renowned ceramics city of Faenza, Italy. The underside bears the hand-painted blue base mark "FAENZA" with the initials L.C.P. and crossed batons, typical of high-quality manufacturers of the late 19th or early 20th century (Historicism), who revived the classical Italian Renaissance tradition.
Design & Decoration:
The front is adorned with an imposing, cobalt blue double-headed eagle beneath a crown, a symbol with a long tradition in European iconography. The jar's bulbous shape and the slightly irregular, white-gray tin glaze lend the piece an authentic, antique appearance. The painting is characterized by bold brushstrokes in classic blue and white contrast.
Condition:
The item is in charming vintage condition. It exhibits age-related characteristics, including minor glaze chips along the upper rim and base, which underscore the authentic character of this historical ceramic piece. No continuous cracks are visible.
