It shares its constructive origin with Remus — planar aluminium elements, exact assembly, no ornamental distraction — yet its posture produces a different condition altogether. It's planes interlock with greater closure. The chair gathers itself around a more legible structural centre, creating an impression of compression, authority, and internal control. What in Remus remains exposed is here drawn inward and stabilized. The distinction is subtle in means but decisive in effect. Romulus is not a different object class; it is the same rule set brought to a firmer conclusion. Within the pair, Romulus is the chair of consolidation. It does not neutralize tension, but contains it. Its authority comes not from scale or gesture, but from the discipline of its own structural resolution. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of Entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by Marvin Julian Freund and Matthias Figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, Freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while Figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of Bureau of Entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form.
