Large mid-century brutalist dining table with matching stools in solid pine, Europe, 1970s, in the style of Pierre Chapo. A powerful and sculptural set defined by its monolithic construction and expressive use of natural material. The table is crafted from thick solid pine, featuring a substantial top with softly rounded, hand-shaped edges that emphasize the organic character of the wood. The surface reveals a rich, flowing grain with beautiful tonal variation, knots, and natural markings that give each section a unique identity. The table is supported by four massive, rectangular legs, positioned slightly inset to enhance both stability and visual balance. Their bold proportions reinforce the architectural presence of the piece, while the softened edges and visible grain keep the overall impression warm and tactile. Accompanying the table is a set of solid pine stools, designed in the same spirit. Each stool is constructed from thick, solid elements with gently rounded tops and sturdy legs. The repetition of form creates a cohesive and harmonious ensemble, ideal for communal dining, card games, heavy drinking or gallery-like interiors. The craftsmanship reflects a workshop or studio approach, where the natural qualities of the material are embraced rather than concealed. There are clear affinities with European brutalist and wabi-sabi influenced design from the 1970s, and strong stylistic similarities to the work of Pierre Chapo, particularly in the use of solid elm, expressive joinery, and architectural proportions. In very good vintage condition, with a beautiful, even patina. Minor wear, small marks, and subtle irregularities are present and consistent with age and use. A rare and striking dining set that functions equally well as a brutalist statement piece, bringing warmth, depth, and presence to any interior. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
