This exceptional pair of armchairs can be identified based on a signed interior design drawing dating from circa 1933–34, designed and executed by Ferenc Fürst, one of the most prominent cabinetmakers in Budapest during the period. These pieces are not part of serial production but were created as bespoke commissions, clearly reflected in their carefully considered construction and well-balanced proportions.
The character of the armchairs is defined by the distinctive cylindrical, U-shaped bent armrests, seamlessly integrated into the closed side structure. This solution provides both structural stability and visual presence, while maintaining the clean, modernist aesthetic typical of the era. The slightly reclined backrest and deep seat emphasize comfort—one of the defining qualities of Fürst’s work.
The frame is crafted from solid black walnut, representing the premium material standards of the period. During restoration, the entire structure was carefully reassembled, preserving the original webbing. The steel spring system was hand-retied, and a significant portion of the original “afrik” stuffing was retained and supplemented, ensuring both structural and functional authenticity. The finish consists of multiple layers of hardwax oil, enhancing the natural grain of the walnut.
The upholstery features a high-quality Minotti cotton-based tapestry (jacquard) fabric, carefully selected not only for its material quality but also for its historical relevance. The striped composition reflects one of the key motifs of 1930s Art Deco interiors: rhythmic vertical bands that visually elongate the form while subtly emphasizing the architectural character of the piece. The restrained, warm color palette balances the solidity of the wooden structure, allowing the upholstery to support rather than dominate the overall design.
These armchairs are not merely Art Deco seating pieces, but documented, museum-quality works tied to a specific design, uniquely combining both authorship and execution by the same master. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,

or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
