A refined and exceptionally well-preserved example of swedish grace design, this cabinet by otto schulz for boet embodies the sophisticated restraint and craftsmanship that defined scandinavian modernism in the 1930s. Executed in beautifully figured birchwood, the façade displays a striking bookmatched veneer with a flame-like pattern, creating a sense of symmetry and quiet movement across its surface. The cabinet’s architectural form is balanced by subtle decorative elements, most notably the circular inlaid medallions adorning the doors. These finely executed motifs—featuring a stylized zebra within a natural landscape—are emblematic of schulz’s distinctive approach, blending neoclassical influences with a playful, almost exotic narrative detail. The darker stained framing elements provide contrast and depth, enhancing the luminous quality of the birch veneer. Beyond its visual appeal, the piece is highly functional. The interior reveals a thoughtfully organized storage system, with adjustable shelving on one side and a series of graduated drawers on the other—ideal for storing linens, tableware, or personal items. The craftsmanship extends inside, where the warm-toned wood and precise joinery reflect the same level of care as the exterior the model is illustrated in a pencil sketch as well as a watercolour in the otto schulz collection preserved at the röhsska museum in gothenburg (inv. No. Rkm 37:1232-1970 and rkm 37:1423-1970) this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
