It combines … Read more This exceptionally high-quality French commode from the late Louis XV period already exhibits characteristics of the Transition style. It combines the vibrant, opulent elegance of the Rococo with the emerging clarity of early Neoclassicism. The curved body, crafted from solid oak and veneered with royalwood, with its slightly convex front, still adheres to the formal language of the Louis XV, while the strictly defined, rectangular marquetry panels already hint at the coming Transition style. The marquetry, featuring rosewood and palisander, and the original, finely chased bronze fittings, which have been preserved, attest to the high quality and craftsmanship of a Parisian workshop, intended for the urban elite of the time. The commode is finished with an original Rouge Royal marble top, which, as the name suggests, was primarily used for courtly furniture and in the courtly milieu of the 18th century. The body has two full-length drawers and three smaller drawers in the upper row.
