Excellent meissen porcelain figurine: clown standing with legs apart, face painted white, wearing a black and white spotted cap with … Read more Excellent meissen porcelain figurine: clown standing with legs apart, face painted white, wearing a black and white spotted cap with feather decoration, a triangular white collar and a white fantasy costume with extremely wide, high shoulders and knee-length trousers with extra-wide hips, large round blue buttons and a blue belt with a holder for the small drum on which he plays music. Behind the musician, a large drum and a pair of cymbals serve as support. Based on a small, stepped square base with bevelled corners, artist's signature 'ps 88' for the year of design on the back of the base. A series of circus figures by peter strang, the long-standing chief sculptor at the meissen manufactory, are an extraordinary homage to the colourful world of acrobats and magicians, full of movement and humour, handmade unique pieces with loving details, artfully painted. With their distinctive, expressive design language, they combine traditional porcelain art with contemporary expressiveness and poetry.
