Solitary vase in the shape of a teardrop: a bulbous body resting on a stepped round base, tapering upwards and … Read more Solitary vase in the shape of a teardrop: a bulbous body resting on a stepped round base, tapering upwards and converging into a long, slender neck after a bulging expansion, with a slightly flared rim; colourless glass with white powder fusing, overglaze in cobalt blue and egg yolk yellow, highly etched Two-leaved Squill decoration in varying degrees of depth, matt etched background on both the inside and background outside, relief polished. Cameo signature 'Gallé' on the wall in the lower section between the leaves. Hand-made Cameo Glass: Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
