This KEBE Steeltube Lounge Chair is a striking example of Danish vintage design and captivates with its radical, graphic form. Designed in the style of an upholstered monoblock, the entire chair appears as a single, flowing upholstered sculpture. Its form is defined not by soft curves, but by clean, architectural lines.
Sculptural Design
The supporting steel tube frame is fully and solidly upholstered, giving the chair its characteristic, weightless, floating appearance. Viewed from the side, one sees a continuous, serpentine curve that forms the seat shell. This shell is supported by two solid, cubic side panels that also serve as armrests. The upholstery has a monoblock aesthetic, in which the seat, back, and armrests appear as a single, unified form. The vertical decorative seams emphasize the graphic structure of this unique piece of furniture. The backrest cascades downward like a waterfall, forming the back panel.
Detailed Condition
The armchair is expressly offered in moderate but usable original condition. The following significant flaws are present:
Fabric Upholstery: The gray fabric upholstery is faded.
Upholstery: After attempting to wash the fabric in the washing machine, the upholstery on the solid armrests has become lumpy and has shifted.
Fabric damage: While attempting to re-cover the fabric, it tore. Additionally, there is a small hole on the seat and a small hole on one of the armrests.
Mechanics: The zipper pull is missing from one of the covers.
Usability in its current condition: Despite the described cosmetic and upholstery defects, the armchair’s load-bearing tubular steel frame is stable. It is fully usable as is and offers exceptional seating comfort despite the lumpy armrests. Immediate restoration is therefore not an absolute necessity; the armchair can also be used immediately as an authentic vintage piece.
This is a rare and visually fascinating collector’s item for lovers of vintage armchairs, which can either be used immediately or expertly restored as a rewarding restoration project. This piece has an attribution mark,
