Most likely made in Northern … Read more An attractive and impressive Spanish solid wood and wrought iron sideboard-credenza in lovely antique condition. Most likely made in Northern Spain in the early 20th Century, this striking and versatile piece offers a variety of storage and display options. It will add traditional quality and a charmingly detailed and rustic, Spanish Colonial aesthetic and will enhance any interior with its light and cheery, shabby-chic off-white colouring.

Reassuringly heavy, this striking sideboard is likely made of Spanish walnut and oak and is impressively sized, yet slim enough to suit narrower spaces. It features a substantial 3cm thick single-plank top with chamfered corners above three dovetail-jointed oak-lined drawers and three shelved cupboards. Set on attractive and shapely carved feet, it displays a wealth of eye-catching carved panelling and original wrought iron metalwork.

At times described as Tuscan, Baroque or Brutalist in terms of design, its wonderful geometrical carvings primarily stem of the Moorish influences from the Spanish Middle Ages and displayed in the tier-carved panelling to the sides and the matching geometric triptych detailing to the door and drawer fronts. The door have impressive, traditionally forged wrought iron hinges and bolt-lock looped handles and there are lovely teardrop handles and shapely mounts on the drawers.

All in all this is an exceedingly charming, useful and versatile sideboard, which will add lovely light colouring, super traditional quality and a knockout aesthetic to any setting.

CONDITION
This sideboard is in good antique condition. Structurally sound and sturdy, it has been refinished in distressed off-white paint sometime since the 1980s when shabby chic first became popular, and the minor to-be-expected marks and scuffs only enhance its appearance. Previously used as a TV and Media unit, it has a circular hole to the centre of the back, which could be replaced if not required. Overall this is very charming, impressive and versatile sideboard in lovely antique condition and if well looked after it should be just as striking for generations to come – please see the photos.
