A truly unusual and highly versatile Georgian figured mahogany metamorphic dining table of excellent colour and quality. This rare design offers multiple configurations, functioning as a full dining table, a pair of elegant console tables, or a compact drop leaf form, making it exceptionally practical for both traditional and modern interiors.
The table is crafted in beautifully figured mahogany with a rich, warm tone and a pleasing, consistent patina. The top displays attractive grain throughout, with a well matched surface that reflects the quality of timber used during the period.
It stands on a series of finely turned legs terminating in pad feet, providing both strength and elegant proportion. The clever construction allows the piece to transform with ease. The two demi lune console sections can be used independently against a wall, brought together to form a circular table, or extended with the central leaves to create a generous 12 seater dining table.
Such metamorphic tables were designed in the Georgian period for flexibility within grand houses, allowing rooms to be adapted quickly for entertaining. Console tables would typically sit against walls when not in use, then be brought together and extended for dining or social gatherings. This example is particularly rare due to its multiple configurations and the number of seating options it provides.
A highly desirable piece for collectors and interior designers alike, combining practicality, rarity, and classic Georgian elegance.
