Hobey Baker designed pieces that, at first glance, barely resemble the category of object they represent. With its wide-set lets, terraced structure, and exaggerated brass pulls, you might initially mistake this particular dresser for a sculpture of some alien life form.

The top cabinet contains four wide drawers with half-diamond cutouts serving as the drawer pulls. The lower cabinet has an additional set of four drawers, with vertically matched grain patterns on the left and right sides.

This piece showcases American walnut at its finest, with vivid, flame-like grain patterns and a rich, earthy color. It has been fully refinished and is free from apparent imperfections.

The dresser is unmarked. From the dimensions, materials, and form, it is undoubtedly an authentic Helen Hobey piece. See less
