The Potterie de la Madeleine revived the production of traditional Anduze pots in the 1980s, specifically by reproducing the iconic 18th-century model created by Jean Gautier. While the company is modern, it specializes in the authentic, centuries-old style of Anduze pottery, which originated around 1610
Traditional pieces feature a flamed drip-glaze that is a mix of olive green, honey yellow, and brown streaks colors.
Authentic antique pieces often carry a stamped cartouche from historic potteries such as,
La. Madeleine, these marked in hollow inside and also have the name on the exterior of the planters.
These terracotta pots are not frost-proof and should be moved indoors or covered during freezing temperatures.
This pair was definitely used outdoors as they are well weathered and have a beautiful original color.
