This massive, farmed, genuine Merulina White Ridge Coral was grown in tidal pools with no harm done to the coral reefs. It takes a few decades to grow, thus the rarity. The scientific name is Merulina ampliata. It features distinct, undulating plates or "fans" covered in small, bumpy ridges (corallites). This is a type of stony coral prized for its intricate, ridge-like texture. Based on the apple for scale, this is a substantial collector's piece, often used as a decorative centerpiece in coastal-themed interiors. Has natural flat-bladed (laminar) formation. The base is flat, allowing it to be displayed on a table or shelf or in a large aquarium. This size is extremely rare. In excellent condition with period wear and patina, consistent with age and use. It has no serious damage or repairs. It weighs 13lbs by itself.
