Antique French leather book box, c.1900
This is an interesting box made from 18th century books. The large book which makes the lid, opens up to reveal a leather and felt lined interior. The front of the box is made up of leather bound book spines of ‘Historie Ancien’ books. The top is from a ‘Dictionaire Geographique’ book, dared 1741, as seen on the front pages printed M DCC XLI. The back of the box shows the row of book pages. The leather is tooled and gilded throughout. There was once a lock which is no longer useable. Good overall condition with age and use wear to the leather edges. Recently waxed and polished.
