A stone sculpture by American artist Newell Hillis Arnold (1906-1988). This sculpture, in pink stone, comes in an abstract, seashell-like shape. It is mounted on a black, circular base which is signed to its underside.
Born in Beach, North Dakota, Arnold's family moved to Minneapolis during his childhood. Growing up deaf after contracting meningitis as a baby, he attended the Minneapolis Day School for the Deaf. After graduating with an architecture degree from the University of Minnesota, he attended the Minneapolis School of Art and then later Cranbrook. Arnold taught at Monticello College for over thirty years.
