Story & Inspiration
This piece began as a simple woven form, but I saw in it the potential for transformation. I set out to create something that feels both romantic and timeworn—like it might have been discovered in a quiet corner of an old cottage. Using decoupage in a more deliberate and physical way, I tore tissue paper into fragments and puzzled them together, allowing the composition to evolve organically while still requiring careful placement. Each piece was intentionally fitted into the next, then beaten into the weave so the paper became part of the structure itself rather than sitting on the surface. The original texture of the basket is never concealed—only revealed more fully. The result is a surface that feels almost painterly, where florals seem to emerge from within rather than rest on top.
Description
This one-of-a-kind decorative basket features soft florals in muted vintage tones—blush pinks, warm creams, faded reds, and subtle greens. The palette is gentle and nostalgic, with a subtle aged quality that gives the piece depth and presence.
The surface has been waxed and rigorously buffed, creating a soft, protective sheen that enhances both the color and the tactile richness of the weave.
Materials & Construction
Handwoven natural fiber basket base
Acrylic white base coat
Hand-torn tissue paper (decoupage)
Wax finish, hand-buffed. The tissue paper was torn—not cut—to disrupt the original pattern and allow for a more fluid, layered composition. It was then puzzled together and worked into the basket by hand by beating the paper into the weave, embedding it while preserving its texture.

Height: 3.25 inches
Inside Diameter: 8 inches
History
Created in 2024, this piece reflects an ongoing exploration of texture, layering, and transformation through decoupage. Each work is entirely unique, shaped by hand and guided by instinct rather than repetition.
Why I Love This Piece
I’m drawn to this piece because it holds onto its original structure while becoming something entirely new. You can still see and feel the strength of the weave, now softened by layers of color and time. It’s that balance that keeps me coming back—structure and delicacy existing together in the same form. I want people to pick it up and look at both the inside and outside. It is completely covered, as with most of my baskets. I also added paint to the rim to complement the colors in the design.
Use
Ideal as a decorative object, catch-all, or accent in a layered interior.
