There is a particular romance to the ritual of tea — and few makers understood this better than Liberty & Co., whose Tudric pewter pieces brought together craftsmanship, design, and the quiet beauty of everyday use. This early 20th century English Tudric pewter tea or coffee set is a beautiful reflection of that moment.
Produced for Liberty & Co. and, based on its markings, offered through their catalog in the early 20th century, the set carries the distinctive language of the Arts and Crafts movement. Each piece is finished in a hand-hammered, or martelé, surface — a hallmark of the period — where the subtle irregularity of the texture catches the light and speaks to the maker’s hand.
The set includes a teapot (or coffee pot), a companion pot, a sugar pot, and a cream jug, all resting upon a coordinating pewter tray. The handles of both pots retain their original wicker coverings, a thoughtful and tactile detail designed to protect the hand from heat while adding a natural contrast to the coolness of the pewter. Crowning each lid, turned wood finials provide a final note of warmth and balance.
It is easy to imagine this set in use at the turn of the century — placed carefully on a tray, carried into a sitting room, and shared among guests in a moment of quiet hospitality. Today, it remains just as compelling, whether used as intended or displayed as a collection of beautifully made objects.
Hand selected in and imported from England, this set carries with it not only the design ethos of Liberty & Co., but also the enduring appeal of craftsmanship made visible — a celebration of material, form, and the rituals that bring people together.

The pewter shows a soft, even patina with light surface wear and minor marks throughout. The hand-hammered finish remains crisp and well-defined. The wicker-wrapped handles are intact with expected gentle wear, and the wooden finials are secure. All pieces are structurally sound, and the tray shows age-appropriate wear. Overall, a well-preserved set. less
