This mid century pressed glass cruet features the classic Moon and Star pattern, a historic American glass design first introduced in the nineteenth century and widely reproduced throughout the twentieth century. The bottle displays the iconic raised star medallions, rosette bands, and radiating rib panels that define the pattern.
Moon and Star glass remains one of the most recognizable American pressed glass patterns and continues to be widely collected for both its historical roots and decorative presence. This piece has been irradiated to produce the deep amethyst purple color. It is quite heavy, and the base shows a few small scratches, from contact with surfaces over time.
Pattern Note: Moon and Star Glass
The Moon and Star pattern, first introduced by Adams & Company in the late nineteenth century, is one of the most recognizable American pressed glass designs. It is distinguished by raised five-point star medallions, alternating rosette bands, and radiating rib panels that create a bold, sculptural surface. Because the pattern was widely reproduced by multiple manufacturers well into the twentieth century, pieces are often unmarked but remain highly collectible for their historic Victorian origins and decorative presence. This cruet retains its faceted stopper, molded handle, and pouring lip, classic elements of the form used for serving oil or vinegar. The irradiated, deep amethyst tone highlights the dimensional pressed pattern and adds dramatic visual contrast when displayed.
