On offer is a hand-carved and gilded-frame mirror in the classic Louis Philippe style. This was an eclectic and practical style of French architecture and decorative arts that emerged during the reign of King Louis-Philippe I from 1830 to 1848.
The mirror shown is a 21st-century reproduction, expressing the mid-19th-century aesthetic by its iconic Louis Philippe "rounded shoulders" and squared base corners. Additionally, the frame is topped by an elaborate baroque-topped crest with vase and foliate scrollwork. A beadwork pattern meets the mirror all along the frame's inner edge.
While this piece emulates 19th-century French design, it is constructed using modern materials and manufacturing principles. However, the hand-applied gold-leaf finish over a solid wood provides a rich and timeless, "old-world" feel.
