This English Regency style mantel is carved from statuary marble and inlaid with black and gold Portoro marble. In the center of the apron is a motif featuring a lifelike carving of an angel holding a torch, her robe flowing. Above each jamb are complementary motifs, each depicting a cherub holding a torch. The Protoro marble inlay runs across the apron and down each leg, framed by statuary marble fluting. The shelf is two tiered and carved with a single groove.
This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to Room 1414. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly confirm the condition before purchasing. Located at our Scranton Warehouse. The manufacturer and exact date of creation are unknown. The dimensions are Overall 54.25 in. L x 42.75 in. H x 6.875 in. D, opening 34.25 in. W x 34.25 in. H, body 48.75 in. W x 4 in. D.
