This welded brass and steel fish-and-reef sculpture is a one-of-a-kind statement piece of American studio art. It adds texture and a Brutalist edge to an interior without being too serious.
Acquired from a private estate in Topeka, Kansas, this sculpture is signed by Cappy Burnett. Research suggests the artist was a welder for Burlington Northern & Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad - a background clearly reflected in the sophisticated torch-cut techniques and masterful metal manipulation. This 'industrial-to-art' transition gives the piece a raw, authentic Outsider Art pedigree that distinguishes it from mass-market mid-century reproductions.
