The artwork uniquely includes two Hockneys observing the 20 flowers, one smoking and one not, with the flowers themselves rendered in a photographic drawing style to create a striking 3D effect.

Hockney describes his method: “This is photographic but in no way an ordinary photograph… You can place objects anywhere in the picture… I think it’s a new kind of photography that avoids perspective.”
