This is a rare and unusual teak pepper mill design by Richard Nissen of Denmark circa 1970. It has a Peugeot grinder and is also a salt shaker.
This piece is characteristic of Nissen's work, with finely detailed turning and a slightly expressive modern look that suited the style of the 1970s.
Nissens Trævarefabrik is the company that made the teak products designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk until their production was moved to Asia beginning in 1970. At that time owner Richard Nissen began producing designs of his own, and became a major figure in Danish design himself.
The mill measures 4.5” wide by 3” deep and is 4.25” high. It is marked “Nissen Danmark” on the underside. It works beautifully and is in excellent vintage condition.
