Catteau Claire de Pauw, Marcl Stal Donation. This special French book was published in conjunction with the 2001 exhibition at the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium. The Catteau collection comprises over 800 pieces, assembled by Claire De Pauw and Marcel Stal. The collectors' comprehensive approach was such that they assembled the world's leading collection of works by Charles Catteau and Boch Keramis's Art Deco production. As a tribute to Marcel Stal, Claire De Pauw decided to donate this collection to the King Baudouin Foundation. It was, above all, the power of the colors in Catteau's work that led Claire De Pauw and Marcel Stal to take an interest in this forgotten ceramist. Catteau, hired by Boch in La Louvière to modernize production, had resolutely moved towards stylization, bright colors, and Art Deco. Between 1910 and 1948, he propelled Royal Boch onto the international scene with his decorations inspired by fashion, modern artistic movements, and African and Oriental civilizations. By its size and diversity, this collection reflects all facets of Charles Catteau's talent. The Foundation has loaned it to the Royal Museums of Art and History. This book was first published when the complete collection was made available to the general public. This hardcover book, featuring 120 full-color pages and over 200 color illustrations, presents the work and influence of Charles Catteau-Keramis at La Louvière in Belgium during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Contents: - A Catteau duet - Charles Catteau (1880 - 1966) - Stylistic development - Charles Catteau and social art: an ideology for the decorative arts? - Challenges and paradoxes in the teaching of industrial arts - The Central Basin in the time of Boch Frères - General description of ceramic technology - Techniques and designs - A question of style: Charles Catteau and the Art Deco - Caring for our heritage
