English book, by William R. Holland, Clifford P. Catania, and Nathan D. Isen, 1990. 1988 marked the one-hundredth anniversary of Louis Icart's birth. There were no parades or large celebrations, but Louis and his wife, Fanny, would have been grateful for the resurgence of interest in his artwork. This newly expanded book includes over 500 different etchings, painstakingly acquired and photographed. Particular attention has been given to the early years (1911-1924) when Icart was a relatively unknown artist, and his edition sizes were limited. With few exceptions, the book contains large, full-color illustrations, which give the reader a perfect representation of the full-size etchings. The authors clear up some of the existing confusion surrounding Icart's work. They explain the variations of his signature, the use of the "Windmill" seal, and other seals. They also provide details on the myriad of copyright notations found on his engravings. All the etchings are carefully measured and dated. This is an excellent addition to the Icart legacy. A beautiful coffee table art book.
