A masterful example of post-war French ceramic art, this 10.5" wide terracotta soup tureen is a signed original by the artisan C. Tinel. Personally sourced from a specialist dealer at a Parisian flea market (see last photo from the market!), the piece represents the refined, earthy aesthetic of 1950s-60s French studio pottery.
The tureen features a voluminous, hand-thrown body finished in a lustrous, multi-tonal burnt orange glaze that flows with an artistic, painterly quality over traditional terracotta. Its architectural silhouette is defined by a high-domed lid topped with a striking conical pinnacle and integrated, hand-molded "ear" handles that showcase the gestural marks of the maker.
Craftsmanship & Interior Details:
The interior is fully finished in a warm, amber-toned honey glaze, reflecting the high quality of Tinel’s studio production. Beautifully preserved throwing rings are visible on the interior of both the base and lid, serving as a testament to the potter's wheel-thrown process and artisanal expertise.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition overall. The body is structurally sound with no cracks or repairs. There is a very minor, single point of glaze loss at the very tip of the lid's pinnacle, which is consistent with the age and authentic use of a vintage kitchenalia piece.
Dimensions: 10.5" Wide (handle to handle) x 9.5" Tall (to top of pinnacle)
