A sophisticated pair of original black-and-white plates from the legendary French fashion periodical Gazette du Bon Ton, published in 1924. These illustrations, titled "Hyde Park" (Plate 135) and "Coin de Plage" (Beach Corner), are the work of celebrated Art Deco artist Maurice van Moppès.
Personally sourced from a specialist print dealer at a Parisian flea market, these plates capture the whimsical and stylish "social chronicle" of the 1920s elite. "Hyde Park" features a fashionable crowd in London, while "Coin de Plage" depicts the burgeoning French beach culture of the era. These are not modern reproductions, but original 100-year-old periodical plates.
Condition & Presentation:
Both plates are in very good vintage condition. They exhibit light, uniform toning in the margins, a natural and desirable aging process for paper of this era that confirms its 1920s provenance.
