A rare and captivating original pochoir print titled "Mars" (March) by Jean Grangier, published in the renowned French fashion periodical Gazette du Bon Ton in 1924. This sophisticated Art Deco portrait features a woman draped in voluminous white fabric, her hair adorned with delicate lily-of-the-valley (muguet) blossoms—a classic symbol of spring in France.
The print is executed using the exquisite pochoir method, where layers of gouache and watercolor are hand-applied through stencils, giving the artwork a rich, tactile depth and luminous color. This specific plate (No. 33) is a hallmark of the high-fashion aesthetic that defined Parisian elite culture in the mid-1920s.
Condition & Presentation:
Presented in a professional, custom double mat that complements the delicate gold and green tones of the illustration. The print is in very good vintage condition with vibrant colors and clean margins. Please note a minor horizontal handling crease and some very light browning on the left side consistent with the age of the paper (1924). This does not detract from the overall vibrant color and presentation of the pochoir.
