This rare, expanded 23-piece service for five is a masterclass in Mid-Century Japanese Chinoiserie. Featuring a bold persimmon ground and hand-applied Moriage dragons, this set offers incredible texture and visual weight. While it shows honest signs of its vintage journey—including scattered pigment wear and a missing handle on the sugar bowl—it remains a stunning, structurally sound collection for the discerning decorator.
Set Includes:
• 1 Lidded Teapot (With original factory steam vent in lid)
• 1 Lidded Sugar Bowl (Missing one handle; included as a bonus display piece)
• 1 Creamer/Milk Pitcher
• 4 Large Tea Cups
• 4 Small Demitasse Cups
• 4 Coordinating Saucers
Maker / Origin: Hand-decorated in Japan, circa 1950. Primary pieces feature traditional iron-red Japanese seals, with demitasse saucers bearing the 'STAR' English export mark—a hallmark of authentic mid-century imports for the American market.

This 23-piece collection is in good vintage condition, presenting with an authentic aged patina. The set has been structurally vetted and all pieces ring true, confirming no active cracks. Surface & Pigment: As is characteristic of mid-century 'cold-painted' porcelain, there is scattered pigment loss to the black, red, white, and yellow hand-painted accents across several pieces. The vibrant persimmon ground shows light surface scuffing and minor factory 'glaze skips' consistent with its era of production. Notable Wear: The lidded sugar bowl is missing one side handle; the break is stable and situated at the attachment points, allowing for seamless display when positioned. Three cups (one large tea cup and two small demitasse) feature a single, minor 'flea bite' nick on their rims. Manufacturing Details: The creamer features an original under-glaze kiln mark (shadowing). Interior porcelain shows minor granular kiln debris and pitting, which are hallmarks of authentic 1950s Japanese export ware. Light thinning to the gilded rims is present throughout." less
