Remarkable example of traditional woven bamboo craftsmanship, featuring a beautifully rounded domed lid, sculptural tapered body, and original braided carrying handle that gives the piece functional character and striking visual presence. Handwoven from finely split bamboo and reinforced with bentwood banding and hand-lashed construction, the basket reflects the utilitarian artistry of the Akha and neighboring upland tribal communities, where vessels such as this were used for transporting and storing rice, grains, textiles, and household provisions in daily village life. This larger-scale example possesses an especially commanding architectural form while remaining warm and organic in feel. The deep smoke-darkened patina, rich reddish-brown undertones, and visible wear from age and handling create texture and authenticity, while the tightly woven herringbone patterns showcase the skill involved in its construction.
