Beautiful handwoven example of traditional bamboo craftsmanship, featuring a dramatic domed lid, tapered form, and rich smoke-darkened patina developed through decades of use and age. Expertly constructed from tightly woven split bamboo with substantial bentwood banding and hand-lashed reinforcement, the basket reflects the utilitarian artistry of the Akha people and neighboring mountain tribes along the Thailand–Myanmar border region, where such vessels were traditionally used for storing rice, grains, textiles, and household provisions. The large scale gives the piece an especially sculptural presence, while the dark lacquered surface and intricate herringbone weave create exceptional texture and visual depth. Time and use have softened the bamboo and produced a warm naturally aged surface with subtle variations, minor wear, and patina that enhance its authenticity and character.
