The Equestrian Eye: Original Pastel of a Stallion by Leslie Charlotte Benenson
Dated May 16, 1986
This beautifully rendered original pastel is another remarkable addition from our curated collection celebrating the magnificent equine studies of the British artist Leslie Charlotte Benenson (1941–2018).
The artwork features a realistic and dynamic representation of a dark brown or bay horse standing proudly in profile. The animal is set against a beautifully atmospheric landscape featuring rolling green hills, wooden fences, and a cloudy, expansive sky. Benenson masterfully utilized pastel to capture the muscular definition, elegant posture, and glossy coat of the stallion.
The piece is numbered "2373" in the lower left corner. In the lower right, it bears a detailed handwritten inscription by the artist identifying the specific subject, its lineage, and the date: "Dynaboy [Juke Box x Woodgrouse] 1979 / TB Stallion / 16 May 1986 Ripe". Elevating its presentation, the pastel is elegantly floated on a charcoal gray matte, perfectly framing the raw edges of the artist's paper within a handsome light wood frame.
