A beautiful set of four antique Japanese Kutani porcelain plates, each hand-painted with birds perched among bamboo, flowering branches, and stylized landscape elements in a vivid polychrome palette. The scalloped rims are finished with iron-red border decoration, and the undersides bear green Kutani “Fuku” marks.
These 7.25-inch plates likely date to the late 19th or early 20th century, in the Meiji to Taisho period, and show the lively overglaze enamel decoration collectors associate with Kutani ware.
Their smaller scale works well for wall display, shelf styling, or a cabinet collection of Japanese ceramics.
