The box is made of lacquered papier-mâché with a black exterior and bright red interior. The underside is inscribed “Made in USSR” and marked “МО 117-3.”

The original factory slip reads “Федоскинская фабрика диплома I степени миниатюрной живописи,” which translates as “Fedoskino Factory of Miniature Painting, First Degree Diploma.” The handwritten entries appear to read “кор. ов. №2” (oval box, no. 2), “арт. 117-3” (article/model no. 117-3), and “Пейзаж” (“Landscape”). Fedoskino is the oldest of the Russian lacquer schools and is known for painting in oil on papier-mâché, often over reflective metallic underlayers that create depth and a soft inner glow.

Based on the factory slip and Made in USSR mark, this example fits within the Soviet period, likely circa 1960s–1980s.
