The box is made of lacquered papier-mâché with a black exterior and bright red interior.

The underside is inscribed “Made in USSR” and marked “МО 117-3.” The lid is signed “Belova” near the lower edge. Fedoskino is the oldest of the Russian lacquer schools and is known for painting in oil on papier-mâché. This example dates to the Soviet period, likely mid-to-late 20th century.
