Hand-coiled from native clay and decorated with organic mineral slips, the jar features vibrant, stylized floral motifs characteristic of the Kewa tradition. The bold black line work contrasts beautifully against a smooth, cream-colored slip, finished with a traditional red-slipped base. The rim of the pot features a "spirit line," where a gap is left. In Pueblo culture, this ensures the life force of the vessel and the creative energy of the potter are not trapped within a closed circle.

The bottom is signed by the artist, along with her family hallmark and "SDP" (Santo Domingo Pueblo, indicating the pot was probably made prior to the return to the traditional Kewa name in 2009). See less
