With its graceful silhouette and crème white coloring, this porcelain jar from the mid-19th century embodies the elegance and refinement of Chinese monochrome ceramics. The little jar has a globular shape, with squat, rounded sides and a constrained neck. The jar is cloaked in a crème-white slip reminiscent of Song-dynasty juluxian ware and finished with a crackled translucent glaze. Richly aged with minor wear, the petite jar has a softness that only time can achieve.
