Direct from France, a striking antique Breton hall cabinet with a tall, narrow profile and an elaborately carved crown top.
The tall upper gallery features a carved rail with turned spindles and drop finials, centered by a Breton ship’s wheel crest and flanked by matching carved wheel motifs to each side.

A large carved back panel above the cabinet top features a deeply carved Breton scene with figures in traditional dress, set before a stone cottage with forest and mountain landscape beyond.

The center cabinet provides enclosed storage, with a deeply carved Breton figure to the door front, a gentleman playing bagpipes in a forest setting, framed by an arched spindle overhead. Below the cabinet, a scalloped apron, with an additional open shelf for display and storage, offering three separate areas for use.


Brief note about Brittany Style Antique French Furniture.
The Celtic roots of the Brittany region of France are reflected in the furniture created in this region. The Breton style is distinctive and easily recognizable by its very ornate carving. A hallmark feature is the symbolic use of men and women in traditional regional dress, along with motifs drawn from the area’s maritime culture, including circles and ship’s wheels. Typically, the furniture is carved from chestnut or oak, with a dark finish.

With its tall, narrow profile and striking silhouette, this cabinet is easily placed from foyer to hall or kitchen and makes a strong visual statement in any setting. Quality throughout; well carved by craftsmen of the period, circa 1880.
