Antique Linen Tea Cloth with Greek Key Lace Border & Woven Medallion Center — Early 20th C.
We pulled this one from a house sale on Nantucket — exactly the kind of quiet, overlooked thing that stops you when you know what you're looking at.
It's a fine antique linen tea cloth, 28" × 21", with a beautifully worked Greek key border in white lace all the way around — precise, graphic, and just formal enough to mean it. At the center, a softly woven medallion that catches the light the way only old linen does. The whole thing feels commissioned, not purchased — someone chose this pattern deliberately, for a specific table, a specific life.
Tea cloths like this were the everyday luxury of a certain kind of household. Not the grand dinner table — that was for the damask and the silver candelabra. This was for the low table, the afternoon tray, the ritual of four o'clock. Picture a Nantucket porch, wicker chairs, a silver pot, someone's grandmother pouring. This cloth was there for all of it.
Condition is lovely for its age — honest vintage character throughout, nothing alarming. A small thing with real presence.
