Rare and highly collectible vintage vase designed and handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico by acclaimed Mexican silversmith Emilia Castillo, a key figure in the legacy of the Los Castillo workshop and the broader Mexican Modernism movement.
This sculptural vessel is expertly formed in solid brass and finished in rich silver plate (plateado), featuring a striking architectural silhouette with a flared neck and faceted lower body. The upper portion is intricately clad in hand-cut natural malachite stone inlay, creating a mosaic-like surface with deep green tonal variation—an iconic material choice within Mexican silver design.
Emilia Castillo’s work continues the influential tradition established by Taxco masters such as William Spratling, Margot de Taxco, and Salvador Pineda, blending modernist form with traditional handcrafted techniques. This piece is a strong example of that lineage, combining organic stone with structured, almost geometric metalwork.
Stamped to underside:
Emilia Castillo, Mexico, M.R., Plateado, TO-85
A desirable and authentic example of Taxco Mexican silversmithing, ideal for collectors of Mexican silver, decorative arts, and modernist design.
