The … Read more An iconic and rare 21st century Mah Jong "Composition Natsu-Kenzo Takada" sectional modular sofa with gilt beech wood platforms. The Natsu sofa was commissioned in 2021 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Mah Jong sofa. The Mah Jong sofa was designed by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois and features six labeled hand-crafted cushion elements designed by Kenzo Takada (Japanese 1939-2020). This is one of the most recent iterations of the iconic mid-century modern sofa. The composition Natsu-Kenzo Takada Mah Jong sofa is composed of nine-pieces. The modular sectional platform sofa is upholstered in a striking mix of Kenzo Takada designed fabrics and presented on a low wood three-piece sectional platform. The platforms and pillows offer infinite design possibilities in a mosaic of color, design, and texture. The large platform consists of one rare chaise lounge having a long seat cushion, and a back cushion with an optional adjustable back. The other two square platforms consist of a square cushion and one corner back cushion, and one back cushion with an adjustable back. There is a total of nine pieces, six cushions and three beech wood platforms. The pieces can be arranged or separated to better suit any interior space. The set features a collection of three unique Kenzo textiles, a richly textured and checkered cobalt blue fabric, a blue-and-white floral patterned fabric with graphic checker accents, and a bold red floral upholstery with large pink and white flower blossoms. Each cushion is designed and sewn by hand in an Italian workshop, and include Roche Bobois interior labels and Kenzo tags. The cushions rest on gilt bronze-toned beech wood platforms to secure and elevate the cushions. Two out of the three backrests have adjustable backs with manual settings. Measurements are taken as seen in pictures. Wood platform measures 7" high. Two square cushions measure 37.5" wide and deep, while the rectangular chaise cushion measures 67.5" long. The set is in exceptional, well preserved condition as seen in photos with crisp, clean, and vibrant colored fabric. Sold as a set of nine pieces.
