A sculptural late-20th-century studio stoneware teapot presented with its original matching ceramic pedestal stand, embodying the playful geometry and color blocking associated with Postmodern and Memphis-inspired design.
The vessel features squared architectural handles and a cylindrical lid rising from a rounded body finished in a warm oatmeal glaze punctuated by natural iron speckling, contrasted by a rich tenmoku brown lower band. The fully glazed ceramic stand transforms the object from functional teaware into a display sculpture, reinforcing its design-object presence.
Kiln stilt marks to the underside confirm high-fire studio production rather than factory manufacture. Unsigned, yet clearly hand-built, the set reflects the late-1980s to early-1990s studio ceramics movement where expressive form and architectural silhouette superseded purely utilitarian intent.
